Evaluating One's Non-Attachment to Ego II

When we encounter people and things that are connected to us, how should we examine ourselves to see if we are in a state of arrogance and pride, but rather in a state of humility and harmony?
If we are in a group and constantly lament that the people around us are "petty people," and constantly think about what means or methods we can use to retaliate against these disobedient "petty people," then when we hold this mentality, we ourselves are "petty people" who are attached to our own self-imposed limitations.
When others discuss something with us and point out that we shouldn't view them as "petty people," if we immediately react with anger and retaliate by insisting on our own views, this reveals that our understanding of the matter is based on a self-righteous interpretation, and that we are in a state of arrogance and pride.
When we use our own life experiences and the concepts we've cultivated to measure others, we are actually using our own yardstick to measure our own level of understanding and conduct.
